ok, so apparently the big thing in nyc is to have unisex/communal bathrooms. we'd seen one at glass, the ridiculously space-age and trendy bar on tenth in chelsea, then one in the blue ribbon bakery, and now this one in the basement of the fat black pussycat. green basin bowls line the center of the room. pictured are the gentleman we met at the bar in from queens with his girlfriend for a drink, and jamela, a young lady we met via her aunt rhoda, there to whoop it up for the night. we met so many great people on our trip! outside in the drizzle, the empire state building, all lit up, stands majestic above the treetops of greenwich village. bleeker street, greenwich village in the evening rain. we stopped for a slice of pizza at a corner pizza place. the counter man requested that i take his photo along with l.q.t. and her cheese slice. later that night we met up with charlie, a pal from california. here he and l.q.t. demonstrate the effects to one's brain when darts-points are applied to the skull. this is sometime around 3 a.m. at off the wagon in greenwich village. runner-up for my favorite picture. l.q.t. and charlie make faces over some buffalo wings. shortly after we broke the cabaret license law and danced to justin timberlake's "rock your body." how can you not dance to that tune? i am absolutely enamored with the public art, specifically the subway's mosaic art. this is a section of a beautiful street scene which can be found on the walls of the 42nd street/times square station. a jazz band plays amidst the hustle of the 42nd street/times square station. in addition to the public art, public music is a another wonderful element of riding nyc's subway. l.q.t., charlie and i stopped by grand central station to admire the architecture from outside... ... and inside. no camera can do it justice. the ceiling, restored in the past decade or so, i believe, is an aqua-colored view of the zodiac, complete with pin-points of light. in the northwest corner of the ceiling where it meets the wall they left one brick to show what it looked like prior to its restoration. the black darkness of that brick is shocking against the bright splendor of the restored ceilings. back outside, we stared up at the beautiful chryster building, shining though surrounded by cloud cover. i insisted (naturally) that we pass by katharine hepburn's house at 244 east 49th street. it is still for sale! anyone want to give me about 5 million dollars? the last time i'd been by here in january i was on my own, and it was freeeeeezing cold, so this time i posed for a photo at the gate. the gate was actually open, and i dared charlie to try the actual door, which, (go figure!) was locked. i couldn't tell what was inside. sotheby's is holding an auction of kate's personal belongings in june. anyone want to send me to nyc with some cash? i've heard this banner outside of trump tower caused some controversy. (perhaps because trump can't seem to get his fill of himself?) there you have it: "you're fired!" dear god, i don't want to hear that from him, or anyone! one can never get enough of pizza in nyc. my beloved pal lo, from our hollywood bowl store days, introduced us to arturo's pizza in the village. mmmmm! me and lo. it was worth my trip to nyc to get hugs from her and to see her smile. she's moving back to l.a. this june, so selfishly i'm thrilled to have her back on my coast. lo models the kooky glasses she got at girl props, an inexpensive and hilarious accessories store in soho. we had a blas trying on various things. they had a no picture rule, though, those party poopers! l.q.t. and lo show their fabulousness off at the entrance to the spring street subway station. i promise, it's my last mosaic picture. they're just so beautiful!
a parting shot: view from our hotel room window, facing north on the upper west side at 94th street. the end!!!!!!! |
